We Are Your Neighbors: Julie Barwick, Ottumwa, Local 3659

ABOUT JULIE:
I am the wife of Charlie and the mother of Thursby, age 10 and Wyatt, age 8. I have been a Girl Scout Troop Leader for the past 5 years. I joined the Boy Scouts of America two years ago and have been a Cub Scout Den Leader and have helped form Golden Eagle District Pack 2. I also volunteer with the Modern Woodman Youth Service Club.

My family enjoys working with the above groups to help in our community. We have served meals at the local homeless shelter, purchased presents for the women and children’s shelter, ran a supply drive for the Heartland Humane Society and have helped raise funds for the fire station to purchase geothermal cameras.

WHAT JULIE DOES:
Last July, I transferred to the IMS Operator position at Great Prairie AEA. A main part of my job is to finalize the special education count to make sure that the local school districts get the money for the special education students that they serve.

WHAT JULIE'S JOB MEANS TO HER FAMILY AND COMMUNITY:
For my family, my job has allowed my husband to take time off of his job and take care of his elderly parents.

For the community, my job is helping 36 local school districts in southeast Iowa make sure that the weight enrollment count is correct so they will be able to receive the funds that they need for their special education students.
